Adyuvant

Substances are added to formulations—especially in vaccines and agrochemicals—to enhance the effectiveness of active ingredients. They work by boosting immune responses in medical applications or improving spray performance, uptake, and persistence in agricultural use.

Types of Adjuvants

FieldFunction
ImmunologyStimulate stronger immune response to antigens in vaccines
AgricultureImprove foliar adhesion, rainfastness, spreading, and penetration
PharmaceuticalsEnhance bioavailability and delivery of active compounds

Common Examples

  • Aluminum salts: Widely used in vaccines to prolong antigen exposure

  • Squalene emulsions (e.g. MF59): Oil-in-water systems that boost immune activation

  • Organosilicones: Used in agrochemicals to improve leaf coverage and uptake

  • Latex or terpene polymers: Form protective films in sticker-type formulations

  • QS-21 & MPL: Plant-derived and bacterial components used in advanced vaccines

Adjuvants are essential for maximizing efficacy, whether it’s protecting crops or enhancing immunity.
